YOUR ROLE IN OUR TEAM

Reporting to the Maintenance Leader, the Industrial Automation Technician will actively participate in the new plant construction project and start-up. The Automation Technician position is a day shift position with the work schedule being determined closer to plant commissioning. This position requires travel to Sherbrooke, Quebec approximately 2 weeks per month until facility start-up for training. (Travel Schedule TBD at later date)

The Industrial Automation Technician will perform tasks related to the programming and troubleshooting of automation equipment as well as the proper functioning and repair of equipment for electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic aspects. They will work in collaboration with the majority of departments and provide technical support to the production team both during shift and on-call after hours for facility emergencies. The Automation Technician will abide by all rules of occupational health and safety in their day to day routine.

This position will require the automation technician to endure the challenges associated with a facility start-up and prove themselves as a pillar of maintenance through leadership and perseverance. This position will allow for development of skills through individual assignments and larger group projects. They will offer problem solving solutions and leadership as a pivotal member who promotes collaboration and team work. Their skills and understanding of the production and automated equipment push them to continuously improve on production and industrial systems.

· Acting as an electrical expert.

· Assisting with installation of new equipment and automation systems.

· Improving the reliability of the systems and automation in place.

· Using controls and PLC knowledge to assist in troubleshooting, improvements, and to assist with new projects.

· Performing all required repairs as well as preventive maintenance to electrical, control, and production equipment.

· Understanding of servo motors, drives, sensors and related equipment.

· Performing mechanical repairs and lubrication maintenance activities as necessary.

· Reading and interpreting plans and drawings.

· Completing inspections of various equipment and facilities (machinery, buildings, etc.).

· Ensuring that electrical, and electronic equipment is safe at all times.

· Participating in the development and follow-up of the preventive and predictive maintenance plan in collaboration with the supervisor.

· Participating in the planning of machine shutdowns with the Maintenance Leader.

· Participating to the back-up of the production to ensure the running of the machine.

· Spending time on the machine in order to improve its running rate.

· Fostering communication among team members and maintaining or improving team spirit.

· Promoting a healthy and safe work environment.

· Answering service calls. (After Hours On Call)

Education

· Electrical certification (442A/309A) and/or

· Diploma in electromechanical automated systems (diploma of vocational studies) and/or

· Two diplomas of vocational studies (related to the field)

 

Knowledge and Competencies

· Hands-on Electrical Installations and conform to Code Book requirements

· PLC and Structured Text

· Understanding and interpretation of the various common systems

· Good knowledge of industrial equipment and controls

· ASI, Weidmueller, Control Expert, and Fanuc robot experience

· Experience with Siemens, ABB, Allen Bradley & SEW

· Experience in a manufacturing plant

· Must have a driver’s licence

WORKING CONDITIONS

· Day Shift (5 days x 8 hours, schedule TBD)

· Occasional variations according to the work schedule and production emergencies

· Must wear safety glasses, hearing protection and boots at all times.

· Dusty and dirty work environment

· Occasional exposure to bitumen, solvent, and vapours or fumes

· Must be available according to the schedule set to answer service calls for machines including after hours for facility emergencies.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

· Work on machines and occasionally at height

· Frequent load handling

· Climbing ladders.
